This two-day workshop covers De Gillett Cox’ unique techniques creating vibrant paintings of trees and forestsย in two different ways. You may choose either technique, or bring two smaller canvases to begin both ways of working.
Learn a layered approach from Master Artist Deย and her daughter Ali, with breath-taking results.
In both cases, we start with a colour rub. We can then either define the trees by painting around them with a single colour, or create a more intricate forest using positive and negative stencilling.
We will be laying in the darks with a colour rub first, then masking up with tape before using paint to create mark-making in the spaces between the trees. Further layers of stencilled leaves or flowers may be used to develop the painting further. The contrast of transparency and opacity is breathtaking! Please gesso your canvas with white gesso before the workshop
