FACE TO FACE LESSONS
In Brisbane at our purpose built Studio Classroom, Arts Tree offers various types of art lessons; both ongoing weekly classes ($35 – $45) and 1 or 2 day workshops ($150 – $295) throughout the year. Art lessons with De Gillett Cox and her daughter Ali Gillett are the best way to gain the skills you need to make paintings you are proud of!
Places in face to face art weekly classes can not be registered online – If you would like to find out if there is a vacancy and claim a place for yourself, email email@example.com or you can call us on 0437 146 359. The workshops are now booked online, please see below.
Our Studio/Classroom is fully stocked with what you need to make wonderful paintings- easels, tables, drawing boards,a fully stocked selection of all the tools and brushes you may never have used before to trial. We sell canvases, paints and mediums to our onsite students only. Tea and coffee facilities are freely available, and we have fans and heaters as required.
Classes are where you come along at the same time every week to work on your own art project with the tutor’s help. Classes are typically quite diverse in the subject matter and style pursued by any student at any time. Workshops are two day events of intense focus, where participants create one or more works using the chosen medium. Workshops are typically quite uniform in the subject matter pursued by each student within that workshop. Workshops are offered in Acrylics & Inks, Acrylics & Gesso Soup, Mixed Media, and other painting and drawing skills.
Participants explore their medium of choice as they create their individual artwork with one-on-one attention from the tutor. In this way each participant gains from the problem solving of every other participant, and so goes home replete with tips and techniques to apply in their future painting. Workshops and classes are ideal for those wanting to learn a new medium, whether they are absolute beginners or more experienced artists wishing to expand their knowledge. Workshops and classes are capped at 10 participants, ensuring high quality attention for each participant.
Arts Tree offers places on a first in, first served basis. Places in any of our weekly classes are confirmed by your online direct debit payment of your invoice.

Arts Tree painting classes are structured in blocks of 4 x 2 or 2.5 hour classes at the same time each week for 4 weeks in a row. If you like what you find, then as an existing client you have first option of purchasing the next 4 weeks of classes at the same time and place. Our students are very varied- we have some who find that they love our classes so much they just keep on coming week after week, and some who can only find the time in their busy lives for just one four week block, and everything in between! We maintain a waiting list for places in our classes, so if as an ongoing student you decide to give it a miss for now or for forever, your place goes to the next student artist waiting on the list. You can join a class at any time (depending on the availability of places) – new students can begin a 4 week block whenever they are ready- there is no particular start date for any block, as tutoring is completely individualised for each student. If the class is full you can contact us to register for the waiting list for that class and we will contact you as soon as a place is available.
1 & 2 DAY WORKSHOPS
Our monthly 1 or 2 Day Art Workshops are predominantly run over a weekend from 9:00am to 4:00pm both days, and are an intensive 2 day immersion into a particular technique.
The wonderful Ali Gillett is now offering some portrait and pet portrait workshops, but due to the unpredictability of the Covid pandemic we aren’t looking too far ahead. Please check our Facebook page to keep up to date.

Detailed information on what to bring for each individual workshop is available and downloadable from the “Materials Info & More” page. Workshops, like our classes, are capped at 10 participants, ensuring high quality attention for each participant. Bookings are mandatory, and are advisable well in advance.

Weekly classes & Workshops Online
Our online workshops are available here and we are continually filming to add to the range offered. We also aim to develop a weekly online class in the future, where students will have access to see face-to-face trouble-shooting processes with students and tutor De Gillett as they progress with their individual projects. Thank you for your patience while we develop these platforms!
