We're a pretty niche kind of art school, and that

We're a pretty niche kind of art school, and that could be an obstacle..... But we've decided to view it in a decidedly different way.

By restricting our use of different products, we're forced to play around and experiment with what we DO have.

We're an acrylic-based art school, which means the ONLY thing we teach here is how to paint with acrylic paints. But that doesn't mean we only paint in one style! It means we get inventive and playful.... Constantly expanding and building on our skill sets as teachers and as student-artists!

Enjoy these softer, darker, looser works in progress from our generous students.
Elements of watercolour, transparency, and abstraction at play, all while using just one type of paint, a few different mediums, and few layering techniques.

How do you tell when a piece is finished?

How do you tell the difference between feeling really proud and finished.... and feeling just a little bit scared that if you keep going you'll mess it up, so you don't go any further?

How do you make decisions about background, perspective, story, and colour? What do you rely on?

Here at Arts Tree we think, after 13 years in business and decades in the art-making industry that there's a few things at play here:

- There's connection to self, to vision, to the concept of your piece.
- There's skill sets, like drawing, colour theory, and critique.
- And then there's that very elusive, yet purely magical, artistic intuition.

Mind.
Body.
Spirit.
